| ABOUT THIS BOOK David Cannadine, in his biography of G. M Trevelyan, quotes the latter as saying: 'In the seventeenth century, Members of Parliament quoted from the Bible; in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, from the classics; in the twentieth century, from nothing at all'. This loss of all real sense of the supreme value of the Bible has left a void in the present generation which has grown to alarming proportions. But for Christian men and women, there are convictions rooted in the Bible which time has done nothing to shake. What are the things we most surely believe? This book points its readers afresh to the basic doctrines of both Creed and Gospel. It provides an echo of the famous words of Simon Peter: 'There is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved'. The Most Reverend Sir Marcus Loan (1912-2009) was formerly Anglican Archbishop of Sydney and Primate of all Australia. For many years the Principal of Moore Theological College, Sydney, he has travelled widely in Australia and overseas, bringing his theological, ministerial and devotional insights to many situations. |
