| The Voice of the Psalms | ||
ABOUT THIS BOOK It is difficult to find simple but deep treatments on the Psalms. A number of old commentaries exist which deal with the Psalter, but most of them are out of print. This easily accessible set of essays on one hundred of the Psalms is a pleasing book to read. The author is well known for his writing. Over many decades he has taken important themes-theological, doctrinal, and biographical and with his enviable skill has created a special type of book. His volumes deal with the inner response of man to the truth of God. Where better—and more quickly—could he go to what we might call ‘the theology of the heart’ than to the Psalter? It is here the yearnings, passions, shames and triumphs of the human heart have their profoundest utterance and exposition. In a day when treatments of the grace of God and the need of the human heart are often all too superficial, it is a relief to find a writer who can speak with such sympathy, clarity and profundity. The Right Reverend Sir Marcus Loane(1912-2009) was formerly Anglican Archbishop of Sydney and Primate of all Australia. He wrote many theological, devotional and biographical works and was in demand as a national and international speaker. |
