We warn you, as you dip into this book, that nothing is stated concerning harps, viols and goodly guitars. It is just that they are instruments of music. But then poems are silent music, formed by the music of the mind. Theology lives in poem, hymn, psalm and song. It may be then that this attractive title may graciously beguile you into listening to the silent music. If it has done this, the author will be delighted and forthwith cease his apology so far given with tongue-in-cheek. As it has been said, David slew more with his harp than with his sling, more with his songs than with his sword. Swords may pierce the flesh to the depth but poems and songs alone may reach the depths of the heart. |
